July 28, 1927 - August 22, 2018

Funeral service for Rosa Mae Nickel, 91, Ringwood, is 10:00 a.m. Monday, August 27, 2018, at the Fairview Mennonite Brethren Church with Pastor Marlin Hiett officiating. Interment follows in the North M.B. Cemetery under the direction of Pierce Funeral Home, Fairview.

The family will be present to greet friends from 6-8:00 p.m. Sunday evening, August 26, 2018, at the funeral home.

Rosa Mae Nickel was born July 28, 1927, at Canton to Elmer and Mary (Brandon) Fitzhugh. She departed for her heavenly home on Wednesday, August 22, 2018, surrounded by her loving family at Fairview.

She attended school in Fairview and began working in restaurants at a young age. Rosa Mae's relationship with Christ was formed when a local woman picked her up weekly and took her to church. This lady's kindness was pivotal in her life's direction.

One day while walking on Main Street in Fairview, she caught the eye of a farmboy from Orienta named Herb.

Rosa married Herbert Roy Nickel on April 14, 1946, at Fairview, at the Fairview North Mennonite Brethren Church. They lived out west of Orienta near the Gloss Mountains when they were newly married, for 7 years.

Then they operated the Orienta Store where Herb served as postmaster within the store for 27 years. They later resided in Ringwood for 32 years.

Rosa loved her children and their spouses so much and all her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved when they all came over and she was all over the kitchen fixing all the meals and going all out and teasing them with making more food to enjoy.

Some of her families most favorite meals were her pancakes, biscuits and gravy, her awesome Sunday fried chicken, her meatloaf, her wonderful gravy, peach and apple cobblers and her cookies were out of this world! Rosa did not sit around and watch TV, she was always cooking and baking or cleaning throughout the whole house.

Rosa loved sending cards to all her family. She kept track on her calendar of everyone's birthdays and anniversaries so she wouldn't miss their special day! Her hand written notes were always loved and missed when she no longer was able to write them. Mom had a special love for all children.

Rosa was always very supportive of her husband's love of music. She accompanied Herb for many years as he and his band played music at nursing homes around northwest Oklahoma.

Rosa was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Jerry Richter, Walter Richter, Thomas Fitzhugh, and Shirley Richter; sisters, Nina Profitt, Doreen Fox, and Sheila Warner.

Survivors include her husband of 72 years, Herb Nickel of Fairview; three sons, Richard Nickel and wife Sally of Oklahoma City; Dwayne Nickel and wife Lourdes of Ringwood; and Lyle Nickel and wife Cheryl of Enid; two daughters, Connie Miller and husband Rod of Yukon; and Kim Pierce and husband David of Canton.

Grandchildren, Robert Nickel of Allen, TX, Kevin Nickel of Dallas, TX, Shelly Furlong and husband Corey of Allen, TX, Mark Nickel and wife Robin of Andrews, TX, Jeremy Nickel and friend Shannon of Ringwood, Stephanie Hatfield and husband Shawn of Jenks, Cassie Evans and husband Ron of Wylie, TX, Brian Nickel and wife Megan of Wylie, TX, Mike Patredis and wife Hannah of Ft. Worth, TX, Kyle Miller and wife Jessica, Levi Miller and Tory Pierce all of Yukon, Wade Pierce and Justin Pierce of Canton.

Great-grandchildren, Natalie Nickel, Seth Nickel, Peyton Nickel, Zach Furlong, Holland Furlong, Grayson Furlong, Dakota Furlong, Austin Baker, Dillon Baker, Kylyn Nickel, Karsyn Nickel, Kynsler Nickel, Jona Nickel, Jade Nickel, Jackson Nickel, Tatum Hatfield, Piper Hatfield, Wyatt Evans, Chase Nickel, Brady Nickel, and Taylor Patredis; two sisters, LaVera Jones of Yukon, and Marilyn Richter of Enid.

Special thanks to the caregivers who came out to the house, to Faith Hospice, and to the staff of the Fairview Fellowship Home for the care and love they provided for our dear mother. We truly appreciate each one of you.

Memorials may be made to the Mennonite Brethren Church, Children's Ministries Fairview; or Oklahoma Dept. of Human Services, RE: Major County Children; with the funeral home serving as custodian. Pierce Funeral Home, P.O. Box 15, Fairview, OK 73737.
