Alvina Ruth Heinrichs was born northeast of Enid on Dec. 17, 1927, the oldest child of seven children born to Jacob and Helen (Rempel) Barkman. She departed this life on Monday, February 19, 2018, at Fairview.

Her education started in a nearby one-room country grade school, Valley Center Grade School. She later graduated from Kremlin High School and attended Enid Business College. Following her graduation in 1947, she worked in accounting at Sears in Enid until her marriage to Herb Heinrichs, Fairview, on March 20, 1949. The couple lived on a farm seven miles west of Fairview, where Alvina helped her husband with farming, cattle ranching and custom hay work. Herb passed away in 1973. She then applied her business training, working in accounting for Oklahoma Bible Academy and the Fairview Fellowship Home, until her retirement Dec. 31, 1996.

As an active member of the Fairview Mennonite Brethren Church, Alvina served as a Sunday School teacher, a Pioneer Girls pal/mentor, and with the Women's Missionary Service. Missions held a prominent place in her life. She traveled to South America to assist her missionary brothers by typing Bible translation for them. Sewing school bags for the church's MCC project brought her great satisfaction.

Alvina's children are Bryan and Lavonne Kroeker, Cleo Springs, Jay and Eileen Messenger, Hillsdale, Kansas, Warren and Bev Heinrichs, Fairview, and Chuck and Carol Taylor, Buhler, Kansas. Grandchildren include Brent and Tanja Kroeker, Teresa Kroeker and Kyle Lieppman, Lamar and Jeannette Johnson, Susan Ridgway, Aaron and Morgan Messenger, Andrea Messenger, Jon Messenger, Aaron and Holly Helm, Matthew Heinrichs, Cade Taylor, Cooper Taylor and Claudia Taylor. Eleven great-grandchildren also loved calling her "Grandma."

Visitation with the family present is 6-8:00 p.m. Friday evening, Feb. 23, 2018, at the funeral home.

A graveside committal service is 10:00 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 24, 2018, at the North M.B. Cemetery, under the direction of Pierce Funeral Home, Fairview. Memorial services follow at 11 a.m. in the Fairview Mennonite Brethren Church, with Chuck Taylor and Butch Barkman officiating.
