December 13, 1928 - May 26, 2020

Louis Gene Eitzen, 91-year-old resident of Fairview, OK, passed from his earthly home on Tuesday, May 26, 2020.

Gene was born December 13, 1928, at home near Homestead, OK to Abraham and Rubena Eitzen, the third of five siblings including Kenneth, Wesley, Mary Elois, and Robert. He never really cared for his first name, so everyone knew him by Gene. He attended Homestead school and graduated from Fairview High School. He attended Tabor College for one year before returning to Fairview to marry the love of his life, Stella Jane Wichert on November 24, 1950. They welcomed to their union two children, Sandra and Roger.

In addition to farming, Gene worked several years in the Major County Treasurer's office, then at T H Rogers Lumber Company. He later went into the home construction business with Vernon Fast and they developed the Sunny Acres housing addition in Fairview. Later, he and Stella built and ran the Classic Inn Motel for 14 years. He simultaneously worked as bookkeeper at Mabar, Inc.

Never one to slow down, he included in his busy schedule, volunteer fireman and chainman for Fairview football games. He rarely missed a football or basketball game and delighted in watching the local athletes perform. He was an active member and past-president of Lions.

Gene was dedicated to his church, serving as usher teaching Awana, singing in the choir and Male chorus and serving on the dining committee. He instilled a solid foundation of faith in his family. He, along with Lyndon Wahl, Eddie Karber, and Roy Brown formed the Fairview MB Male Quartet which performed in church and recorded an album. He loved his family dearly and was blessed with grandchildren and great grandchildren who loved him greatly in return. In his later years, Gene's health gradually declined and he was unable to enjoy watching their activities and going hunting and fishing with them. He never failed, though, to ask about them and loved hearing stories of their exploits.

Gene was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Kenneth, his sister Mary Elois, and a grandson Bill. He is survived by his wife Stella, his daughter Sandy and husband Bill Denton, his son Roger and wife Denise Eitzen, grandchildren Joshua Williams, Zachary Williams, Benjamin Williams, Elizabeth Taylor, Kara Lawrence, John Eitzen, Daniel Eitzen, and Lisa Eitzen, and 15 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m., Friday, May 29, 2020, at the Fairview Mennonite Brethren Church with Pastor James Suderman and Pastor Marlin Hiett officiating. Interment will follow in the North M.B. Cemetery under the direction of Pierce Funeral Home, Fairview, OK. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association with the funeral home acting as custodian at P.O. Box 15, Fairview, OK 73737. Condolences may be made online at www.piercefuneralhomes.com.
