Cleo Springs Cemetery


July 06, 1937 - August 13, 2017

Vernon W. Newman was born, the youngest of eleven, on July 6, 1937 to Floyd Newman and Hazel Oakley Newman in Isabella and passed from this life on August 13, 2017 at his home in Cleo Springs. He went to Missionary Country School and graduated from Ringwood High School in 1955. Vernon graduated from Northwestern State College with a Bachelor’s Degree in 1959 and Fort Hays College with his Master’s Degree in 1974. He spent most of the 30 years of his education career as principal, retiring from Tyrone. Vernon sang in a quartet with his brothers, Milo, Rayford and Leland around the Ringwood area for many occasions. They always sang the song, “Life’s Railway to Heaven.” Vernon was raised in the Friends Church in Ringwood. He loved woodworking and was excellent at furniture repair.

In 1957 Vernon married Shirley Wiggins and from that marriage four children were born: Tom, Randy, Melinda and Greg. He married Bonnie Livingston in 1984. In 2017 he married Beatrice Kelly.

Those who preceded him in death include his wife, Bonnie; his son, Randy; his grandson, Jamie; his brothers, Lennus, Merlin, Marvin, Leland, Rayford and Milo and his sisters, Arlene Watson, Virginia Chrisman and Bernice Myers.

Vernon’s survivors include his wife, Beatrice; his children, Tom Newman and wife, Molly of Ringwood, Melinda Koehn and husband, Michael of Cleo Springs and Greg Newman of Ringwood; daughter-in-law, Wanda Newman of Ringwood; eight grandchildren; seventeen great grandchildren; brother, Donald Newman of Austin, Texas and many other family members and friends.

Service for Vernon will be Wednesday, August 16, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at Cleo Springs Nazarene Church. Burial will follow at Cleo Springs Cemetery. Viewing will Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. at the funeral home and before the service at the church.

Memorials may be given to Cleo Springs Fire Department or Hospice Circle of Love through the funeral home
