The funeral for Meritt L. McCaskey, 87, of Longdale, will be 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Midway Assembly of God Church. The Rev. Tommy Pitts will officiate. Burial will be in Bethel Cemetery. Arrangements are by Nichols Funeral Home, Fairview. Visitation with the family will be 6-9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

He was born July 25, 1920, to William Paul and Bessie Artress Ewbank, and died Saturday, Nov. 17, 2007, in Fairview.

He attended Cedar Springs and Lone Star Country Schools. He married Ruth Pierce Dec. 24, 1938. They lived north of Orion and later moved near Longdale in 1946. He worked for Ewbank Water Well Drilling Co. for several years. He also worked for United States Gypsum, WPA project at Canton Dam, and the highway 15 construction project. He loved farming. He played with the Ewbank music group. He was a member of Midway Assembly of God Church. He was Sunday school teacher for 62 years and was on the deacon board.

Surviving is his wife Ruth, of the home; four daughters, Marilyn Lee of Longdale, Judith Marti of Fairview, Ramona Kennedy of Medford and Gwendolyn Long of Oklahoma City; nine grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made through the funeral home to Midway Assembly of God Church building fund.
