MARTHA (MATTA) ANN HILL BARRETT
Submitted by: Marsha Blake, Zillah, WA

Ruth Hill of the Lincoln County Historical Society was able to find for me that my great grandmother, Martha (Matta) Ann Hill Barrett was buried in the Forest Cemetery. She had died in the Chandler area on Nov. 23, 1898. The family was camped nearby picking cotton for a man named Diamond. Her coffin was made from walnut by a man named MacAnarny. A daughter recorded the event, "She laid a Corps a day and a half and two nights Be fore She was Berried we had her furnel preached at the grove yard he was a methest preacher".
