Dale E. Hibler was born as the second child of Lloyd and Norene Hibler in Okemah, Okla., on Oct. 12, 1938. He welcomed his second sister, Judy, on Jan. 15, 1946. He was raised in Okemah and moved to Medford in 1960 to live with his folks.
While here, he worked on the new school building. He went with a harvest crew that went north and was harvesting peas when he got his notice that Uncle Sam was drafting him into the Army. He did his basic training in Fort Leonard Wood, Mo., and from there he served in Fort Riley, Kan. After his training was complete, he was stationed in Fort Benning, Ga., for the rest of his two years of duty.
He roomed with Henry Pollard and would go home with him on weekends. There he met his wife, Martha Pollard, of Thomaston, Ga. He was discharged from the Army in July 1963. He left Georgia and returned to Medford, Okla. Three weeks later he called Martha and said, "Are you ready to come to Oklahoma?" she said, "Yes." He said he'd be there the following Sunday. Mrs. Pollard, Martha's mother, heard this conversation and followed Martha to her bedroom. Mrs. Pollard said, "Was that Dale?" She said, "Yes." Mrs. Pollard said, "You better get up tomorrow morning and tell him he better bring his white shirt and tie because you are not leaving until you are married." Martha, being an obedient daughter, wrote that letter the next morning.
Dale is survived by his wife of 57 years, Martha; his son, Alan (Shiela) Hibler of Miami, Okla.; his daughter, Michele (Jim) Greenwood of Benton, Kan.; grandchildren, Ashlie (Levi) Shrader of Edmond, Okla., Cole (Ashley) Hibler of Ponca City, Okla., Talan Hibler of Miami, Okla., Alyssa Greenwood of Benton, Kan., Kaitlyn Greenwood of Springfield, Mo., and Jared Greenwood of Benton, Kan.; three great-grandchildren, Michael, Casyn, and Carlie of Edmond, Okla.; sister, Judy (Earl) Dunkleberger of Moore, Okla.
He was preceded in death by his oldest sister, Yvonne; his parents, Lloyd and Norene Hibler; his mother-in-law, Beulah Mae Pollard; brothers-in-law, Milton, Melvin and Floyd Pollard, all from Georgia.
Graveside service for Dale will be Tuesday, Dec. 22, 2020, at 11 a.m. at Rosemound Cemetery, east of Medford. Arrangements are by Lanman Funeral Home Inc. of Medford.
