MULVANE, KS — Mary Ables, 64, of Mulvane, Kansas, formerly of Pond Creek, OK, passed away Friday, July 22, 2011, in Wichita, Kansas.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 26, 2011, at First Christian Church in Pond Creek, Okla. Burial will be in the Pond Creek Cemetery in Pond Creek. Visitation will be 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday at the Hawks-Shelley Funeral Home in Wellington, Kan., with family receiving friends 5-7. A memorial has been established with the Pond Creek Cemetery Association. Contributions can be left with the funeral home. Mary Carolyn Ables was born the daughter of A.W. “Red” and Hazel Kenton Cole in Enid, OK, on December 25, 1943. She graduated from Pond Creek High School in 1962. Mary was united in marriage to Charles Leon Ables on November 10, 1962. Mary stayed home with her children until they graduated and then she worked as a housekeeper at the Villa Maria Nursing Home in Mulvane for many years. She enjoyed candle-making and spending time with her grandchildren and family.
Surviving to honor her memory are her sons, Chuck Ables and wife Robin of Wichita, Kan., and Doug Ables and wife Maralinda of Rossville, Kan.; daughter, Stephanie Ables of Mulvane, Kan.; brothers Wendell Cole and wife Mary Ann of Pond Creek, Okla., and Robert Cole and wife Shirley of Pond Creek, Okla.; 6 grandchildren; and 6 great-grandchildren.
Preceding her in death are her parents; husband, Charles Leon Ables in 2010; sister, Delores Meinhardt; and brother, Edsel Cole.
