James Roger Chestnut

New Home Cemetery


James (Jim) Roger Chestnut joined his loved ones in Heaven on Sunday, July 2, 2017. He was 76 years old.

Jim was born on Feb. 7, 1941, to Margaret Dark Chestnut and John Alfred Chestnut in Enid. Jim grew up in the Nash area graduating from Nash High School in 1959. Jim married Beth Smith on June 3, 1961. Jim served 38 years as a fireman at Vance Air Force Base before retiring as assistant chief. Jim also served on the Nash Fire Department and was one of the founding members of the Nescatunga Rural Fire Department. In addition to his career as a fireman, he also installed carpet, farmed, cut wheat, worked as a mechanic, as well as helping area farmers.

After retirement Jim and Beth moved to Amarillo, Texas, where they served as house parents at Cal Farley's Boys Ranch. In 2004, Jim and Beth moved to Stillwater, Okla., to be closer to family. Jim also loved to hunt and fish, spending a great deal of time at both.

Jim was preceded in death by parents Alfred and Margaret, brother Clifton, sisters-in-law Nita and Barbara, and grandson Jordan.

He is survived by Beth, his wife of 56 years, Greg and Joyce Chestnut, Larry and Jill Secrest, and brother O'Neil. Also surviving are grandchildren Jacob (Victoria) Secrest, Lucas (Kaytlyn) Secrest, Kaden Secrest, Jonathan (Brittany) Chestnut and three great-grandchildren Allaina, Madelyn and Ronan Secrest.

Graveside Service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, July 6, 2017, at New Home Cemetery, Nash, Okla. Visitation will be today, July 5, 2017, between 6-8 p.m. at Palmer-Marler Funeral Home Stillwater, Okla.

Memorial contributions to the Nash Christian Church, Nash Fire Department or Nescatunga Rural Fire Department in care of Palmer-Marler Funeral Home 5106 N. Washington, Stillwater, OK 74075.
