Virgil Lee Reimer was born April 30, 1926 on the farm northeast of Medford to J.M. and Marie Reimer. He was a member of the Mennonite Church. He attended District 44 School. Virgil went into the Army in September 1944 and trained at Camp Fannon, Texas in the infantry, then on to Camp Howes, Texas and then to Ft. Lewis, Washington. He was transferred to the Medical Corps. He was then sent to the South Pacific. He came back to Seattle, Washington in 1947 and was discharged. He returned to Medford where he farmed. He worked for Ivan Shire, a cattle trader from Jefferson for many years. Virgil L. Reimer and Betty L. Smith were married March 10, 1951 in the Methodist Church in Medford. They lived in Medford until 1956 when they moved to a farm near Howard, Kansas. Virgil, Betty, Gayla and Lee moved back to Medford in 1959. They moved to the J. M. Reimer family farm northeast of Medford in August 1968 and Virgil farmed and went to work for the Clyde Coop at Medford and Clyde until his retirement in 1989.
Those who preceded Virgil in death include his wife of 60 years, Betty; his parents; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Irene Jantzen and husband, Paul, Rosemarie Unruh and husband, Norman aka Shorty and Joyce Ferris and husband, Dale; one additional brother-in-law, Ron Smith.
Virgil is survived by his son, Virgil Lee Reimer Jr. and wife, Tina of Purcell; daughter, Gayla Chance of Enid; son, Rex Reimer and wife, Lisa of Medford; one brother-in-law, Chuck Smith and wife, Cindy of Medford; one sister-in-law, Doris Bias of Warner; four grandchildren; three step grandchildren; five great grandchildren; four step great grandchildren; nieces; nephews and friends.
Funeral service for Virgil will be Monday, March 25, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. at the Medford United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Medford Mennonite Cemetery with arrangements by Lanman Funeral Home, Inc. of Medford.
