Mennonite Church Cemetery


William Dirksen, 81, Blackwell, died Friday evening at Blackwell Regional Hospital, and the funeral was at 2 o'clock Monday afternoon in the Deer Creek Mennonite Church with the Rev. Peter Neufeld officiating. Interment was in the Mennonite Cemetery at Medford with Roberts Funeral Home directing.

Memorial in Mr. Dirksen's name may be made to the Deer Creek Mennonite Church.

He was born November 2, 1905 at Medford and was a retired farmer, carpenter and custodian. He was a member of the Deer Creek Mennonite Church.

He grew up in the Medford area and attended rural schools there.

Mr. Dirksen married Bertha Janzen May 17, 1931 and they settled on a farm east of Medford, living there until the 1940s when they moved to a farm near Renfrow, living there 14 years.

They lived there until he retired in 1961 and moved to Blackwell.

He began working at Wetmore's in Tonkawa and later for Blackwell public schools, retiring in 1968. He was a member of the Senior Citizens.

Survivors include his wife, Bertha, of the home; two daughters, Darlene Decker of Broken Bow and Marlene Haggard of Enid; one son, Don Dirksen of Ponca City; one sister, Susie Janzen of Wichita; two brothers, Henry Dirksen of Oklahoma City and Ted Dirksen of Wichita; eight grandchildren and four great – grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by six brothers, Martin, Abe, Jake, David, John and Arthur.
