ENID — Funeral for Glenn Russell Smalley will be 10 a.m. Friday, August 10, 2012, at United Methodist Church, Lamont, OK. Rev. Vera Walton will officiate. Burial will be in Lamont Cemetery. Arrangements are by Wilson Funeral Home, Pond Creek.

Glenn, 88, was born July 26, 1924, on the family farm, east of Salt Fork, OK, to James Edward Smalley and Cora Mae (Heusel) Smalley, and passed away August 7, 2012.

Glenn attended Salt Fork Elementary School and graduated from Lamont High School in 1942. While in high school, Glenn met Joan Maree High on a double-date, and he was hooked. They were married September 5, 1943, and made their home on the family farm. They had a son the following year.

Glenn wanted to help with the war effort, so in 1945, he enlisted in United States Marine Corps and was honorably discharged from First Separation Co. MCB, San Diego, CA, in 1946. Upon returning home, Glenn moved his family to Stillwater, OK, and attended Oklahoma State A&M. During that time, a daughter arrived.

Due to his father’s health problems, Glenn again moved his family to the farm and took over operations. In 1963, Glenn and Joan purchased the Dairy Land business in Medford, and in 1965, they purchased Circle Inn Motel in Medford and moved into the residence at the motel. Even running two separate businesses, Glenn still drove back and forth to farm.

In his early years, Glenn liked hunting and woodworking, and later, he enjoyed being a “rock hound” and traveling and collecting various items. He was active for several years with Enid Gem and Mineral Club and Good Sam Travel Club.

Glenn is survived by his wife of almost 69 years, Joan; son, Jimmy and wife, Marilyn, of Enid; daughter, Glenda, of Lamont; three grandchildren, Zack, Sarah, and Mark; two great-grandchildren, Gavin and Monica; and several nieces, nephews and friends.
