Ebenezer Cemetery

AKA German Baptist
Ellis County, Oklahoma
SEC-4 TWP-20 R-26

LOCATION: 5 Miles south of Shattuck, 4 miles west and 1/2 mile south.

The First German Baptist Church of Woodward County, Oklahoma was officially organized on April 24, 1904. After meeting in a couple of area schools, a small church building was built 5 miles south, 4 miles west and 1/2 Mile south of Shattuck.
A new name, The German Baptist Church, Goodwin, Oklahoma was chosen when Ellis County was formed. This group was led by John George Ehrlich. In 1946 the name was changed to Ebenezer Baptist Church of Shattuck, Oklahoma. A new church was built in Shattuck and dedicated in 1950.
The church and cemetery were located in the SE 1/2 SEC on land owned by Friedrick Herber. The cemetery was established first, since church meetings were held in homes and schools prior to the 1904 date.
Near the fence in the NE corner of the cemetery is buried an unknown Longhofer. Mr. John Longhofer owned the NE 1/2 Section bordering the cemetery, but at this time a relationship is unconfirmed.
There were reportedly more graves outside the west fence line. There were supposed to be one to three Mexican Railroad workers buried on the west side of the cemetery. The fence was moved to the east several years ago.
Appreciation is extended to all who helped to complete the history and cemetery records.
This information was compiled by the Ellis County Historical Society. The Information was derived from: walking the Cemetery, obituaries and other sources. The Seventh Day Adventist Congregation was very helpful in getting the following records. These records are as correct and complete as any record we have. Our deepest gratitude is extended to all.
If you have family buried in the Ebenezer Cemetery or have obits (with newspapers permission or an obit that you can write) or tombstone photos or individual portraits or can write a short bio and would like to add your information to this website, contact the area coordinator for more information. You can also check out our How to Submit page.
NOTICE. If you submit information to this website and change your e-mail address please notify the area coordinator with the county/cemetery and new e-mail address so we can keep our pages as up to date as possible.
