This cemetery is in Coal County but it is very near the Atoka County line and many Atoka County residents were buried here.
CAIRO CEMETERY MARKER
A marker at the entrance that was erected by Carl and Patricia McEntire in 1998 tells some history of the Cairo Cemetery. With the burial of Grandma Nolan in 1898 Cairo Cemetery was established. Ned and Bert Marcum were the original property owners of the Marcum Cemetery until the couple donated ten acres to the Cairo School District #24 in 1917, in 1954 the Cairo and Cottonwood School Districts were consolidated and Cottonwood School district currently owns the cemetery.
