Ruby Loretta Rushing Houchin was born July 11, 1945 to Ruby L. and Thomas W. Rushing. Ruby attended Jefferson Davis Elementary and Southeast High School, graduating in 1963. Ruby received her Bachelor's Degree in 1967 and earned her Master's Degree in Education in 1971 from East Central University. She taught elementary school for many years, and truly loved teaching.

Ruby married Troyce E. Houchin in 1968. Her gifts from God were Timothy Edward, John Derek, and Melissa Jane. She loved her children and grandchildren dearly. Leona Rushing had been her main-stay sister for many years, and Judy Domer had been her great friend for many years.

Ruby was active in senior activities with her many friends. She enjoyed exercise and dancing. She also loved her yard and her flowers. In Ruby's life, God was always #1, family was #2, and her country was #3.
