Retired Lt. Col. Frank C. Fuson Jr., 87, of Norman died Sunday, July 22, at Norman Regional Hospital. Mr. Fuson was born Jan. 26, 1920, in Wellington, Texas. He was one of eight children born to Frank Fuson Sr. and Florence Ivy. He graduated from Wellington High School.

Following graduation, he attended Bethany Nazarene College for two years. With the outbreak of World War II, Mr. Fuson joined the Army Air Corps where he was commissioned a first lieutenant and went on to fly 35 combat missions. He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross and the Air Medal with three oak clusters.

In 1954, he married Naoma Coleman. They had two children and had recently celebrated their 53rd wedding anniversary.

After retirement in 1964, he attended the University of Oklahoma where he earned a bachelor's degree in social studies and a master's degree in natural sciences. He taught earth science at Central Mid High until his second retirement in 1984. Former students recall the respect he had for students and how they, in turn, came to respect and appreciate him.

He was a member of First Christian Church. His interests included hunting, fishing, farming, gardening and spending time with family.

Mr. Fuson was preceded in death by his son Jeffery Fuson.

He is survived by Naoma Fuson of the home; Larry Fuson of Cameron Park, Calif; and five grandchildren, Bill and Melinda of Norman, Erik of Bloomfield, Colo., and Timothy and Katherine of Cameron Park.
