Bernice Carlene Wait Stewart

Carlene Stewart, 79 of Mooreland, died Saturday, December 8, 2018 at her home in Mooreland, surrounded by her family. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm Thursday, December 13, 2018 in the Billings Funeral Home Chapel, Woodward. Interment will follow in the Mooreland Cemetery.

Bernice Carlene (Wait) Stewart was born to James Wesley and Rachel May (Ellison) Wait on January 22, 1939 at the family homestead farm house seven miles south of Quinlan, Oklahoma. She attended Quinlan Schools until 1951. Her family then moved to Mooreland, and she graduated from Mooreland High School.

Carlene worked at Robinette Nursing home in the early 60's, the Mooreland Hospital in 1970's, and Eazy Pic in the 1980's. She the went to work for Western State Hospital in Fort Supply, transferred to Alva and retired in 2001 to spend time with her husband Norton.

Carlene and Norton were married on January 19, 1957 in Woodward, Oklahoma where they made their first home. They moved to Enid for a short time, before building a home in Mooreland in 1960, and have lived there since.

She was a member of the Mooreland First Baptist Church, she was baptized in 1962 when the church was located at the Billings Funeral Home Chapel in Mooreland.

Carlene leaves to mourn her passing sons: Michael Dean Stewart of Yukon, Kevin Lee Stewart and wife Glenda of Quinlan, Norton Lynn Stewart of Woodward; several grandchildren; one sister, Hazel Scheuerman; one brother, Joe Burton and wife Elise; several other family members and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Norton Stewart; brother, Lloyd Dee; sisters, Louise Callaway, Lucille Watson, and Arlene Tuck
