Woodward, Okla. — Laura C. Rommel, 95 year old Woodward resident, died Friday, March 4, 2011 at the Grace Living Center in Woodward. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, March 7, 2011 at the Billings Funeral Home Chapel in Woodward with Dr. Allen Mabra and Reverend Randy Weaver officiating. Interment will be held in the Mooreland Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home in Woodward for visitation on Sunday, March 6, 2011 from 4:00 p.m until 6:00 p.m. Arrangements are under the direction of the Billings Funeral Home.

Laura Cathrine (Lierman) Rommel was born on January 17, 1916 in Richmond, Missouri to Louise and Laura (Johns) Lierman. She was reared in Richmond, Missouri until her family moved to the Mayfield area, southeast of Quinlan when Laura was five years old. She attended school at the Mayfield School. Laura was united marriage to Irby Rommel on May 13, 1936 in Woodward, Oklahoma. They made their home in the Cedardale area until 1969 when they moved to Woodward. Laura has lived there since that time.

Laura was a member of the Catholic church. When she was younger she enjoyed working in her garden and her yard. She loved being with her family, especially her children and grandchildren.

She is survived by her two sons, Carl Rommel and wife Charlotte of Thayer, Kansas, Jerry Rommel and wife Jo of Woodward; six grandchildren, Bryan and Shelly Rommel of Bucyrus, Kansas, Wade and Margo Powell of Kellyville, Steven Peavy of Fredonia, Kansas, Stephanie Showalter of Parsons, Kansas, Alicia Goins of Independence, Kansas, Jeremy Peavy of Chanute, Kansas; two sisters-in-law, Helen Rommel and Iva June Lierman; other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Irby Rommel in 1990 and six brothers and sisters.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or the Faith Hospice, with the funeral home accepting the contributions
