GORDON L. RICHMOND

24 Aug 1929 - 24 Dec 2010

Woodward, Okla. — Gordon L. Richmond, 81 year old Mooreland resident, died Friday, December 24, 2010 at his home. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, December 29, 2010 at the First United Methodist Church of Mooreland with the Reverend David Mercer officiating. Interment will be in the Mooreland Cemetery . Arrangements are under the direction of the Billings Funeral Home, Mooreland.

Gordon Lee Richmond was born on August 24, 1929 in Hominy, Oklahoma to Clyde William and Beatrice (Strausbaugh) Richmond. Gordon was reared in Hominy and Mooreland and graduated from Mooreland High School in 1947. On January 6, 1952, Gordon was united in marriage to Joy LuEtta Frances Knittel in Tucumcari, New Mexico. Gordon served his country in the United States Army. After Gordon's military service, he and Joy made their home in several places while he was in the oilfield. They were blessed with four children, Lance was born in 1955 in Wakeeney, Kansas; Lia Lea was born in 1956 in Alva; Lyle was born in 1957 in Beaver and Leslie was born in 1959 in Woodward. The family returned to Mooreland in 1961. They both loved to ride motorcycles and won many motorcycle races. Gordon worked together in many businesses, including a furniture store; a hometown café and also in farming and ranching.

Gordon was a 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Mason and was a retired volunteer fireman. Gordon was a Ham Radio Operator, which he had also done in the U.S. Army. Gordon was very instrumental in bringing radar to Woodward.

He is survived by one daughter, Lia Lea Richmond of Oklahoma City; three sons, Lance Richmond of Mooreland , Lyle Richmond and wife Sue of Moore, Leslie Richmond of Mooreland ; nine grandchildren, April Richmond of Broken Arrow, Heath Richmond and wife Kassie of Mooreland , Brant Holloway of Oklahoma City, Bethany Bishop of Oklahoma City, Sean Richmond of Hawaii, Rachelle Richmond of Oklahoma City, Benjamin Richmond of Oklahoma City, Jared Richmond of Stillwater, John Richmond of Mooreland ; one great-granddaughter, Whitney Richmond; other relatives and many friends.

Besides his wife Joy, Gordon was preceded in death by his parents, and one sister Virginia Richmond.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation with the funeral home accepting the contributions.
