Wilbur Loyd Ramey

Wilbur Ramey, 85 year old Mooreland rancher, died Monday, October 29, 2018. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, November 1, 2018 at the Woodward Church of Christ. Burial will follow in the Mooreland Cemetery.

Wilbur Loyd Ramey was born to Charley and Zella Marie (Haskins) on December 31, 1932 on the family farm, where his father was also born and his grandfather Ed Ramey homesteaded in 1901. Wilbur attended Mooreland schools and graduated from Mooreland High School. After one year of college at Panhandle A&M, Wilbur was drafted into the United States Army. He served his country during the Korean Conflict as a Radar Specialist and was honorably discharged in 1954. He served in the Army Reserve until 1962.

He was united in marriage to Rita Marilyn Squires on December 9, 1955 at the Canton Y Church of Christ in Dewey County. Shortly after marriage they moved to Friend, Kansas. In 1963, they returned to the family farm southeast of Mooreland where he raised cattle, wheat, and alfalfa hay. Wilbur was a life long rancher and he worked as the Utilities Superintendent for the City of Mooreland for 29 years.

Wilbur was a member of the Church of Christ. He was a member of the American Legion and was an Honorary FFA member. Wilburs farm was honored as an Oklahoma Centennial Farm in 2001 by the Oklahoma Historical Society. He loved restoring old tractors, each of them have a special meaning.

He is survived by his wife Marilyn Ramey of the home; three sons: Bruce Ramey and wife Shelly of Elk City, Ronald Ramey and wife LaDawn of Mooreland, Royce Ramey and wife Kelley of Weatherford; one daughter, Sandra Haller and husband Robert of Mooreland; foster son, Major Neil Mazuranic, US Army Retired of Odenton, Maryland; ten grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren and one on the way; one brother Melvin Ramey of Tacoma, Washington; two sisters: Carolyn White of Mooreland, Norma Patterson of Mooreland; other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister Wanda Duggins, one brother Kenneth Ramey and great-grandchild Kendall Paige Highfill.
