JEFF PIPER

27 Oct 1956 - 4 Oct 2014

Funeral: 10:30 AM Wednesday, October 8th, 2014 Lincoln Avenue Baptist Church, Lincoln Campus

Interment: Wednesday, October 8th, 2014 Mooreland Cemetery

Alan Jeffrey Piper, or as his family and friends knew him (Jeff) was born October 27, 1956 and passed on October 4, 2014 in his home with his family around to comfort him. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, October 8, 2014 at the Lincoln Avenue Baptist Church, Lincoln Campus with the Reverend Jason Dirks officiating. Interment will be in the Mooreland Cemetery.

Jeff was born in Garden City, Kansas to Earl & Dixie Piper. He was the second child of four born to this marriage. His parents divorced when he was young and his father later married again and Jeff gained a half brother & half sister, a step sister & 2 step brothers.

After his parents divorce he and his brother Rick, sisters Tamara and Lisa lived with both parents, some relatives and for quite a while with their grandmother Inez and some cousins in the hills of Colorado. He talked a lot about his time in Colorado. He went to Kindergarten there and always remembered going with his grandma, siblings and cousins to follow the coal truck to gather coal that they used to heat and cook with.

Jeff gained a stubborn and independent side which caused him to strike out on his own at a very young age. He told about when he was 13 years old that he ran away with the Carnival and ended up in North Dakota. He was tired of sleeping in the back of a pickup and called his mom to send him money to get back home. He said his mom told him “you found your way up there, I guess you will find your way back”. And he did. His mother was very dear to him and he always found his way back to her and his brother and sisters even after his adventures to North Dakota, South Texas, California and Colorado.

In 1980, as an adult he came to live with his Dad’s sister, Aunt Mary, for the second time in his life and went to work in the oilfield. On his 24th birthday he was in a Bar in Beaver Oklahoma celebrating his birthday alone and he met his wife to be, Leona Casey.

Jeff told Leona the night they met that he was not getting married until he was 25 years old, which didn’t interest Leona at all at the time. But one year later, one week after his 25th birthday they were married in November 5th, 1981. They had 2 children, LeTamra & Nathan. He always told Nathan that looking for a girl in a bar doesn’t always turn out as good.

Jeff worked at various jobs through his life but mostly in the oilfield or other oilfield related jobs. Before he got sick in February 2014 he was working for Koda Services driving a cement truck in the oilfield.

Jeff loved his family and his extended family with all his heart and would try to have family get togethers as much as possible. He loved to cook out or smoke meat on his huge meat smoker and have as many family and friends over as he could. He was a good cook and a great entertainer. He took very good care of his family and was concerned about providing for their needs.

His cancer illness pained him not only physically but emotionally because he was not able to provide for his wife Leona, spoil his grandson Case and great nieces Kinsey & Lexie in the way he wanted to.

Jeff was proceeded in death by his Sister Tamara, Mother Dixie, Father Earl, his Grandparents, Half Brother Gary Piper, and Step Brother Steve Avey.

He is survived by his wife Leona of their home in Mooreland, Daughter LeTamra & husband Kent Nichols and grandson Case Nichols of Shattuck, Oklahoma, son Nathan Piper of Mooreland, Oklahoma, Brother Rick Piper of Kingman, Arizona, Niece Crystal Hennigh and great nieces Kinsey & Lexie of Woodward, Uncle Bob & Aunt Vicky Faulds of Grand Junction, Colorado and other extended family and friends.

Memorials may be made to the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation, Cancer Research with the funeral home accepting the contributions.
