Woodward, Okla. — Kate Martin, 83 year old Mooreland resident, died Sunday, May 15, 2011 at the Grace Living Center in Woodward. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, May 20, 2011 in the First United Methodist Church of Mooreland with the Reverend David Mercer officiating. Visitation will be held at the funeral home in Woodward. Arrangements are under the direction of the Billings Funeral Home.

Katherine Ellen(Ford) Martin was born in Cherokee, Oklahoma on July 2, 1927 to Leo Dennis and Mildred Ruth (White) Ford. Kate was reared in Cherokee and graduated from Cherokee High School with the class of 1945. After graduation Kate began working for Dr. Parson and Dr. Benson Clinic in Cherokee. She was united in marriage to Clifford Elmer Martin on February 5, 1953 in Cherokee where they made their home. Kate and Cliff lived in Stillwater and Enid for a short time before moving to Mooreland in October of 1958. Kate and Cliff were blessed with four children, David, Janice, Bret and Kathryn. Kate worked at the Mooreland Hospital for 16 years before going to work for the Woodward Regional Hospital, retiring after 22 years at the age of 73.

Kate was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Mooreland. She was active in the Methodist Women’s Group, was a Sunday School teacher and MYF Leader. Kate was a very social person and belonged to the Mooreland Work and Play Club, Woodward County Extension Club, Altrusa Club, DAR, American Legion, as well as a Cub Scout Leader, enjoyed square dancing and was involved in many school activities when her children were young.

Although she enjoyed many hobbies such as knitting, crocheting, sewing, camping and attending sporting activities, what she enjoyed the most was being with her family.

Kate is survived by her husband Cliff of the home, four children, David Martin and wife Janet of Woodward; Janice Martin of Kellyville; Bret Martin of Mooreland; Kathryn Swigart and husband Roy of Mooreland; four grandchildren, Kim Brown, Terry Jones, Clayton Daniel Martin, and Katy Jo Martin, four great-grandchildren, Kylie Broadbent, Kevin Sims, Zach and Terra Jones, and one great-great-grandchild, McKena Pollard, two sisters, Patricia Watt and husband Dick of Harper, Kansas; Joan Henderson and husband Lloyd of Ponca City; one brother, William "Bill" Ford of Lake Charles, Louisiana; great niece, Shay Brown; great-great-niece and nephew, Carlie Castor, and Corbin Brown; several other family members and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and one brother, Melvin "Bud" Ford.

Cliff Martin, 90 year old Mooreland resident, died Monday, June 20, 2011 at the Woodward Regional Hospital. Cremation graveside services will be held Wednesday, June 29, 2011 at 10:00 A.M. in the Mooreland Cemetery with the Reverend Marvin Hudson officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of the Billings Funeral Home.

Clifford Elmer Martin was born on August 3, 1920 at Ingersoll, Oklahoma to William Elmer and Pearl (Dean) Martin. Cliff moved with his family to the Winchester community northwest of Alva, where he graduated from the 8th grade. He then moved to Cherokee, Oklahoma. In 1942, Cliff joined the United States Navy CB’s serving until 1945 as a Carpenters Mate 2nd. Class.

On February 5, 1953 Cliff was united in marriage to Katherine Ellen Ford at Cherokee, Oklahoma. Cliff and Kate were blessed with four children, David, Janice, Bret and Kathryn. Their first home was in Cherokee before moving to Stillwater and Enid. In October of 1958 they moved to Mooreland where they have made their home since that time. Cliff loved working with his hands and he was a very hard working man, he had farmed with a six mule team, worked in a cannery in Yakima, Washington and learned the carpentry trade. Cliff help re-build roads, schools, airport runways and military facilities in Hawaii after the bombing of Pearl Harbor and in Tiapai. Many schools, churches, business and homes across the countryside have been built by Clifford Martin Construction.

Cliff enjoyed camping, fishing, hunting, gardening and raising animals. He spent many hours playing cards and dominoes. He also like to square dance. Cliff loved his family and friends and was always there for them. He liked to give people nicknames to show his fondness toward them. Cliff attended the Methodist church and was a member of the American Legion.

He is survived by his four children, David Martin and wife Janet of Woodward; Janice Martin of Kellyville; Bret Martin of Mooreland; Kathryn Swigart and husband Roy of Mooreland; four grandchildren, Kim Brown, Terry Jones, Clayton Daniel Martin and Katy Jo Martin; four great-grandchildren, Kylie Broadbent, Kevin Sims, Zach and Terra Jones and one great-great-grandchild, McKena Pollard; great niece, Shay Brown; great-great-niece and nephew, Carlie Castor and Corbin Brown; many nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Kate on May 15, 2011, three brothers, George W. Martin, Billy Jo Martin and Bobby Jo Martin; three sisters, Zelma Lucille, Velma Pearl Hague and Peggy McConnell Jenkins.

We will miss "Daddy’s Hands" strong, gentle and secure.
