Woodward, Okla. — Ruth Mae Highfill 84 year old Mooreland resident died Saturday, Jun3 25, 2011 in the Grace Living Center in Woodward. Graveside funeral services will be held Tuesday June 28, 2011 at the Mooreland Cemetery with Reverend Gaylon Cox officiating arrangements are under the direction of the Billings Funeral Home. Visitation will be Monday, June 27, 2011 from 8:00 A.M. until 8:00 P.M. at the Billings Funeral Home of Woodward.

Ruth Mae (Nelson) Highfill was born on June 27, 1926 on a farm south of Mooreland, Oklahoma, to Eddie Owen and Gladys Cecilia (Dillion) Nelson. Ruth Mae attended Mooreland schools through the eighth grade. She was united in marriage to Jack Alvin Highfill on May 9, 1942 in Woodward, they made their home on a farm in the Haskew community, north of Mooreland. To this union four children were born: Deanna, Johnnie, Tommie, and Jackie. Ruth Mae and Jack also lived in the Tri-city area of Washington state. In 1962 they returned to Mooreland where they farmed and ranched. Ruth Mae also owned and operated a beauty shop until her retirement.

At the age of 60 Ruth Mae received her GED, after studying at the Vo-tech. Ruth Mae was very proud of this accomplishment and always stressed the importance of education to her family.

Ruth Mae enjoyed playing guitar and singing with her husband, but most of all she loved her family and enjoyed spending time with them.

Ruth Mae was a member of the First Baptist Church of Mooreland.

She is survived by her four children, Deanna Cline and husband Bill of Woodward; Johnnie Highfill and wife Sandra of Mooreland; Tommie Highfill and wife Bonnie of Woodward; Jackie Miller and husband Elmer of Higgins, Texas; twelve grandchildren, C. Dale Jones, Mikial G. Jones, Tye Kala Mitchell and husband Bob, Samantha Highfill, Sarah Hunter and husband Nick, Jesse Highfill and wife Karen, Jennifer Jo Krause and husband Kevin, Jamie Lynn Noble and husband Matt, Jack Wesley Highfill, Rae Ann Hefner and husband Casey, April Isaman and husband Reginald, Gunnery Sgt. Jared Miller and wife Davina; 20 great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; sister, Berta Lee O’Hair of Kennewich, Washington; one brother, Tommy Eugene Nelson of Kennewich, Washington; sister, Barbara Louise Krouse of Dayton, Washington; and several other family members and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Jack Alvin Highfill, one brother, Billy Owen Nelson, and one sister, Betty Jean Stanley, and her companion of 15 years Elbert (Sie) Walker.
