Billy Eugene Fields

April 28, 1926 ~ July 21, 2020

Billy E. Fields, 94 year old long time Mooreland resident passed away Tuesday, July 21, 2020. Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 25, 2020 at 10:00 am in the Mooreland First United Methodist Church. Interment will follow in the Mooreland Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of the Billings Funeral Home.

Billy Eugene Fields, was born April 28, 1926 in Curtis, Oklahoma to Roy Thomas and Lenola Fern (Scollin) Fields. He grew up on a farm northeast of Curtis and southeast of Mooreland. He graduated through the eighth grade at Curtis. While attending high school at Mooreland he worked at Hendersons Store and drove a school bus route North of Mooreland.

In 1944, he was drafted into the United States Army during World War II. He had basic training at Fort Sill, Oklahoma and then Parachute training at Fort Benning, Georgia. He was sent to the Pacific making landings in the Philippines with the 462th paratroop artillery; 503rd Regimental combat team. When Japan surrendered, he was sent to the Northernmost island of Japan with the First Occupational Combat Team. On March 9, 1947, he received his honorable discharge at Camp Beale, California.

On March 7, 1948, Bill and Syvilla Elwood were married at the home of her parents. Their first home was in Perry, Oklahoma. In January of 1949 they moved back to Mooreland and worked on Otto Roberts Ranch southeast of Mooreland. In April of 1950 they moved to A.W. Crawford????????s farm in Moscow Flats. Their children joined them to make a happy family farm: blessed with Ronald Ray, Judy Marie, Lowell Eugene, and Joe Alan.

Bill was very dedicated to his farming hoping he had passed his knowledge onto his sons.

Bill served on various boards which included: Director for A.S.C.S. Woodward for 10 years; Director for Mooreland Farmers Coop for 42 years, earning Coop Director of the Year in 1985; and director for Woodward Production Credit Association for 21 years before retiring in 1999.

He was proud of his military service in World War II, willing to tell his experiences as a paratrooper to anyone who wanted to listen.

Bill is survived by his wife, Syvilla; sons, Ronald Ray and wife Letha, Lowell Eugene and wife Teresa, Joe Alan and wife Cindy; daughter, Judy Marie and husband Richard (Mac) McGoon; 11 grandchildren, Melissa McLain (Russell), Russell Fields, Will Watson (Yvonne), Alisha Spencer, Leslie Johnson (Jared), Stephanie Pugh (Chad), Todd Fields (Shelly), Justin Fields (Holli), Lori Lichtenwalter (Steven), Billy Fields, and Allison Fields; 19 great- grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; nieces and nephews and lots of other family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Lenola Fields Grayson, grand parents, John and Hattie Fields, F.M. and Carrie Scollin, 4 brothers and 3 sisters.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Mooreland United Methodist Church with the funeral home accepting donations on behalf of the family.
