Art Dezort, 89 year old Mooreland resident died Tuesday, October 21, 2014 in the Woodward Regional Health Center. Graveside funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm Friday, October 24, 2014 in the Mooreland Cemetery with the Reverend Mary Davis and Tyler Dezort officiating. Interment will follow with the Billings Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Arthur Dean “Art” Dezort was born on June 2, 1925 in Curtis, Oklahoma; he was the son of Louie “Shorty” and Hazel Mary Margaret (Simmons) Dezort. Art attended school in Curtis through the eighth grade he then attended Mooreland High School. Shortly after his 18th birthday Art was drafted into the United States Army. In the Army Art was a paratrooper, he was in the Pacific Invasion and was wounded in combat. Art was Honorably Discharged and returned to Oklahoma. He finished high school in Dewey, Oklahoma. He attended Oklahoma A&M at Okmulgee and Stillwater. After graduation he was employed by the Bureau of Mines in Bartlesville. He also built houses and owned and operated service stations. Art also worked for the United States Postal Service in Woodward for several years.

Art was member of St. John’s Episcopal Church in Woodward. He was very involved in all church activities, especially the annual Shrimp Boil. He was also the official coffee maker.

He is survived by one daughter, Leslie Hayes of Tulsa; one son, David Dezort and wife Michelle of Mooreland; two step-daughters, Deanna Williams and husband Karl of Woodward; Margie Henley and husband Michael of Seabrook, TX; daughter-in-law, Kelly Dezort of Woodward; 12 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Grace Sharp of Sherman, TX; Virgie Voth of Enid; two brothers, Ralph Dezort and wife Rachel of Ore City, TX; Stub Dezort and wife LaVerna of Woodward; several nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.

Art was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Etta Dezort; son, Rick Dezort; step-son, Ivan Bolser; two sisters-in-law, Bernice Dezort; Francisca Dezort; brother-in-law, Ernie Voth; son-in-law Edwin Hayes.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. John’s Episcopal Church or to the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation for Cancer Research with the funeral home accepting the contributions.
