Everett Butler, 93 year old Mooreland resident, died Tuesday, March 6, 2007, in the Woodward Regional Hospital. A Celebration of Life service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, March 9, 2007, in the Mooreland Cemetery with Harry Billings officiating. Burial will follow under the direction of the Billings Funeral Home.
Everett Butler was the second of five children born to Hiram Preston Butler and Adeline (Clark) Butler on July 7, 1913, on the Butler farm north of Curtis, Oklahoma. Everett was united in marriage to Ethel Edna Ramey on May 26, 1934, in Woodward, Oklahoma. Five sons were born to this union. They celebrated their 68th wedding anniversary in 2004. They owned a farm southeast of Mooreland, Oklahoma. Everett served as Superintendent of the Alabaster Caverns State Park near Freedom, Oklahoma, from 1966 until 1976.
Everett and Ethel owned a residence in South Texas where they spent many winters. They loved to travel and visited every state in the United States and 35 countries around the globe. They spent much of their active life supporting youth in 4-H and FFA activities. Everett was awarded the Honorary FFA State Farmer Degree in recognition of his long-term and dedicated assistance to youth in agriculture. He was well known for his unique sense of humor and his keen common sense. For many years, he raised Duroc hogs, Shorthorn cattle, Southdown sheep and several crops. He was a devoted steward of the land, loved the outdoors and was an avid hunter. Everett also loved sports, especially football. He was a public servant, having served on several local, area, and statewide boards and commissions.
He is survived by a sister, Helen (Butler) Clark of Mooreland; four sons and their wives, Roy Butler and Agnes of Columbus, Ohio; Roger Butler and Lisa of Liberal, Kansas; Gary Butler and Ruth Ann of Tulsa, Oklahoma; Vernon Butler and Kathy of El Reno, Oklahoma; daughter-in-law Sharon Butler of Mooreland; fifteen grandchildren; 34 great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; several other family members; special friends Nathan and Pat Reese; and many other friends.
Everett was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Ethel; two brothers and one sister, Arthur, Edith and Jim and by his oldest son, Paul O'Neil Butler.
Memorials may be given in lieu of flowers to the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation with the funeral home accepting the donations.
