JOSEPH STERLING "JOE" BRANKEL

10 Sep 1923 - 10 Jun 1985

Mooreland – The funeral for Joseph Sterling "Joe" Brankel, 61, a retired operation engineer for Northwest Central Pipeline Company who died Monday in an automobile accident near Ringwood, will be at 2 PM Thursday in the First Assembly of God at Woodward. The Reverend Paul Sharpe and the Reverend Forrest Murray will officiate. Burial will be in the Mooreland Cemetery under direction of Billings Funeral Home.

Brankel was born September 10, 1923, in Cedar County, Missouri, and moved with his parents to the Dillon community, north of Mooreland. He attended Free Out and Dillon School and high school at Freedom. On February 6, 1943, he and Viola Benta Griffin were married at Mooreland. They made their home north of there and in 1953 he became employed with City Service Gas Company, living in Pampa, Texas, and at Guymon before moving back to Mooreland in 1979. He had retired from the company in April of this year after 37 years of service.

Survivors include his wife, Viola; three sons, Gary Brankel, Guymon, Lewis Brankel, Claremore, and Norman Brankel, Yukon; a daughter, Mrs. Ralph (Carol) Adcock, Meeker; his father, Jake Brankel, Cash; two brothers, the Reverend Don Brankel, Texarkana, Arkansas, and the Reverend Jim Brankel, Greeley, Colorado; and nine grandchildren.
