HAZEL JOSEPHINE THORNE

Hazel Thorne, 92 year old current resident of Mooreland, Oklahoma formerly of Canon City, Colorado died Tuesday, November 18, 2014 in Mooreland. A memorial service will be held at a later date, with the Billings Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Hazel Josephine Thorne was born on October 30, 1922 in Canon City, Colorado; the daughter of Carl Victor and Harriet Josephine (Rupp) Giem. Hazel was reared on the family ranch Northwest of Canon City. Hazel attended grade school at a country school and graduated from Canon City High School. She was united in marriage to Carl Vernon Thorne on November 18, 1943 in Littleton, Colorado. Hazel worked at the Royal Gorge before getting married. Hazel and Carl spent most of their life ranching on the Tallahassie Creek. After Carl’s passing, Hazel managed the ranch. After 2003, she spent time with her son Dusty in Valley View, Alberta, Canada, and Cut Bank, Montana and with her daughter Rocky in Mooreland. In 2013, Hazel moved to Mooreland to be near her daughter.

Hazel enjoyed hunting arrowheads on the ranch, spending time in her garden, working on the ranch, and being a homemaker. She also loved spending time with her family and friends.

Hazel is survived by one daughter, Rocky Compton and husband Mervin of Woodward, Oklahoma; one son, Dusty Thorne of Valley View, Alberta, Canada; one grandson, Levi Compton and friend, Shay Seay of Cheyenne, Oklahoma; two great-grandchildren, Rayanne Bowman of Perkins, Oklahoma; Wyatt Compton of Sayre, Oklahoma; one grandson-in-law Greg Bowman and wife Lisa of Perkins; one step grandson Cooper Bowman and wife Taylor of Hinton, Oklahoma; one sister, Helen Marchand of Canon City, Colorado; many nieces, nephews other family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, granddaughter, Malinda (Compton)Bowman, sister, Clara Louise Nash, brother, Elmer Giem.
