Melinda Sue Swartfager Young

August 20, 1957 ~ March 6, 2010

Mindy Young, 52 year old Woodward resident, died Saturday, March 6, 2010 at the Woodward Regional Hospital. Funeral services will be held at the 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 10, 2010 at the First United Methodist Church with the Reverend Charlie Graves officiating. Interment will be in the Elmwood Cemetery.

Melinda Sue (Swartfager) Young was born on August 20, 1957 in Ankeny, Iowa to Roger Lowell and Gwendolyn Eileen (Taylor) Swartfager. Mindy was reared in Ankeny, Iowa and graduated from Ankeny High School in 1975. After graduation she attended Iowa University. Mindy was united in marriage to Clayton "Cy" Young on August 24, 1991 in Woodward, Oklahoma. They made their home in Woodward and have lived here since that time. Mindy worked for K-101, for Mutual of Omaha for 11 years, Cellular One which later became AT&T and was currently working for the state of Oklahoma in the Oklahoma Economic Development Authority office.

Mindy was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Woodward. She was a member of PEO and had served as Treasurer of the church. Mindy"s family always came first, she truly enjoyed family life. She was full of life and was an inspiration to her family.

She is survived by her husband Cy Young of the home; one daughter Emily Young of the home; stepson Chase Young and wife Ruth of San Diego, California; her mother Gwen Bendixen and husband Dale of Hot Springs Village, Arkansas; one sister Kim Sabo and her family of Glens Falls, New York; one brother Marty Swartfager and wife Pam of Weatherford, Texas; one grandson Cole Clayton Young; other relatives and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her father, Roger Swartfager, her grandparents, and two uncles, Rudy Rupisil and Don Taylor.
