Paul E. Pickering

Janruary 22, 1920 ~ December 15, 2008

The funeral for Paul E. Pickering, 88, of Woodward, will be 10 a.m. Monday, Dec. 15, 2008, at Billings Funeral Home Chapel, Woodward. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery with military rites by the Army. He was born Jan. 22, 1920, in Cestos to Fred and Alga McCasland Pickering and died Friday, Dec. 12, 2008, at Clinton Veterans Home, Clinton. He graduated from Richmond School. He married Barbara Ann Roy Aug. 24, 1942, in Woodward.

He was inducted into the Army in 1942, serving in the Normandy invasion and the Battle of the Bulge. He served 19 months and was honorably discharged in 1945. They made their home in Fayetteville, N.C., at Fort Bragg. They moved to Altus, then transferred to Wood-ward in the mid-1940s, where he worked at the employment agency. He worked as a salesman for Cecil Campbell for a time, then worked at the ASCS office, retiring after 28 years. She died in 2007. He was a member of Oklahoma Cattleman’s Association.

Surviving are a nephew and niece, Roscoe and Ann Hill of Woodward; and brother-in-law Ted Roy of Oklahoma City. In addition to his wife, Barbara.

he was preceded in death by three sisters and one brother.
