Elsie Evelyn Hamilton McGriff

January 27, 1920 ~ July 26, 2013

Elsie McGriff, 93-year-old Woodward resident, was granted her angel"s wings on Friday, July 26, 2013 in the Woodward Regional Hospital. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, July 29, 2013 in the Billings Funeral Home Chapel with the Reverend Ray Blakley officiating. Burial will be in the Elmwood Cemetery under the direction of the Billings Funeral Home.

Elsie Evelyn Hamilton McGriff was born January 27, 1920 in Taloga, Oklahoma; she was the daughter of James Richard and Gladys Evelyn (Simmons) Hamilton. She attended several country schools. On August 16, 1938, Elsie was married to Fred Lewis McGriff of the Moscow Flats area. They were married in Taloga. To this union, four children were born, Lovella Nadine (Lou), Larry Duane, Rodney Lewis and Craig Lee. She was a stay-at-home mom raising children and helping with farming. In 1954, they moved from the farm to Woodward. Lewis and Elsie were married 58 years, 9 months before Lewis preceded her in death on May 20, 1997. Elsie met Oliver Knabe at the local Senior Center. They later married and enjoyed traveling and hitting the casinos. Oliver preceded her in death on August 18, 2011.

She loved her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren and loved spending time with them.

Elsie was a member of the Faith United Methodist Church.

Elsie is survived by one daughter, Lovella (Lou) McDonald and husband Jack of Sharon; son Rodney McGriff and wife Linda of Hanford, California; son Craig McGriff and wife Donna of Oklahoma City; sister-in-law Marjorie Hamilton of Woodward; 11 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; 3 great great grandchildren; one nephew Raymond Hamilton and wife Sharon; two great nephews and three great nieces; other family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Jim and Gladys Hamilton; one son Larry McGriff; one brother Richard Hamilton and one niece, Sheryl Mullins.
