DOUG MCDOWELL

21 Mar 1943 - 3 Dec 2011

Woodward, Okla. - Doug McDowell, 68 year old Sharon resident, died Saturday, December 3, 2011 at his home south of Sharon. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 7, 2011 at the First United Methodist Church with the Reverend Aaron Martin officiating. Interment will be in the Elmwood Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of the Billings Funeral Home.

Douglas Dee McDowell was born on March 21, 1943 in Yakima, Washington; he was the son of V.L. Skeet McDowell and Beulah Irene McDowell. Doug grew up in Mooreland and attended Mooreland schools and Guymon schools, graduating from Guymon High School in 1961. He was united in marriage to Joyce Arlene Hill on April 12, 1963 in Mooreland, Oklahoma. They made their first home in Mooreland, but lived in several different towns, including, Guymon, Chickasha, Ulysses, Kansas, and Canadian, Texas. They moved to their current home south of Sharon in 1999. Doug worked at the Ford Garage in Woodward and for Cities Service which later became Williams Field Services in 1968 until his retirement in 1999. He was currently working part-time for Woodward Ace Hardware.

Doug was a member of the Faith United Methodist Church and had served on the Administrative Board and the Finance Committee. Doug loved being with his family, especially his children and grandchildren. He also enjoyed his dogs, horses, his friends and his church family.e is survived by his wife Joyce McDowell of the home; his mother Marjorie McDowell of Woodward; two sons, Shawn McDowell and wife Katrina of Mutual, Shane McDowell of the home; one daughter Shannon Bergeron and husband Robbie of Woodward; two brothers, Danny McDowell and wife Barbara of Mooreland, Ray Crawford and wife Lori of Kingfisher; two sisters, Pala Farmer and husband Gerald of Green Forest, Arkansas, Carol Gastineau and husband J.E. of Woodward; five grandchildren, Lacey and Rusty Robinson of Sawyer, Kansas, Alisha Bergeron of Woodward, Candis McDowell and Travis Swenson of Garnett, Kansas, Daylon Bergeron of Woodward, Kamryn McDowell of Mutual; three great-grandchildren, Ethan and Ely Robinson, Kahne Swenson; special uncle Hal Thomas of Woodward; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his father V.L. "Skeet" McDowell, his mother, Beulah McDowell, one brother Bobby Crawford and one sister Connie Crawford.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Faith United Methodist Church with the funeral home accepting the contributions
