Funeral: 11:00 AM Saturday, March 29th, 2014 - !st United Methodist Church- Ft. Supply

Interment: Saturday, March 29th, 2014 - Elmwood Cemetery

Melva Murray 100 year old Woodward resident formerly of Ft. Supply passed away Saturday, March 22, 2014 at the Grace Living Center. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am in the Ft. Supply United Methodist Church Saturday, March 29, 2014 with the Reverend Bill Tindell officiating. Interment will follow in Elmwood Cemetery with the Billings Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Melva Lucille (Wingo) Murray was born August 15, 1913 on the family farm southwest of Ft. Supply, Oklahoma to Jasper and Ollie (McDowell) Wingo, she was the the oldest of five children. Melva attended the North Star School and later Ft. Supply Schools graduating in 1932. She was the oldest living Ft. Supply Alumni. Melva lost her father in an automobile accident in 1927, because she was the oldest she helped her mother work on the farm and care for her younger siblings. Melva was united in marriage to Sam Murray on September 1, 1934 in Woodward. Melva and Sam made their home on the farm near Ft. Supply until 1959 when they move into Ft. Supply. They were blessed with five children, Rose Anna, Arlene, Sam Jr., Joanna, and Lois. Melva moved to Woodward in 1977.

After her retirement she enjoyed playing Bingo, card games, going on bus trips all over the United States, and visiting family and friends.

She was a member of the Ft. Supply Methodist Church, and the B.P.W. Club.

Melva is survived by one daughter Lois Hunter of Ft. Supply; twelve grandchildren; many great and great-great grandchildren; other family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Sam; four children, Rose Anna who died in infancy; Arlene Lawler; Sam Jr.; and Joanna Fewin; one grandson, Samuel Alex; and one great-granddaughter, Candice; one brother, Darwin Wingo; a baby sister; two other sisters, Virda Imke and Doris Gabler.

The family would like to thank the Grace Living Center and Staff for the excellent care Melva received while living there.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society with the funeral home accepting the contributions.
