GEORGE WILLARD MOORE

George Moore ,77 year old Woodward resident, died Saturday, April 13, 2014 at the Grace Living Center in Woodward. Graveside funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm Wednesday, April 16, 2014 in the Elmwood Cemetery with Reverend Wesley Peterman officiating. Burial will follow with the Billings Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

George Willard Moore, the first born son arrived, on September 5, 1936 at the family homestead near Laverne, Oklahoma to Luther Willard and Florence Beulah (Murphy) Moore. When George was born the doctor told his parents and grandmother he had double pneumonia and probably would not make it through the night. Grandmother told the doctor "he is my first grandchild and he will live". She got a shoe box, wrapped George in a blanket and placed him on the oven door to keep him warm along with some home proven remedies. George did survive, what the love of a grandmother can do. George was baptized at a young age. He attended grade school and graduated from Laverne High School with the class of 1954. George stayed on the farm for a year then in 1955 he joined the army beginning his ten years of service to his country. He believed that each soldier who wore the uniform saying US Army meant they all were serving the same country, the United States of America. George was a gifted mechanic, at this time his specialty being on airplanes and helicopters. He also trained personnel to work on those aircraft. He was a communications and inspections officer, gaining respect for his knowledge and ability in all four catagories. George traveled several countries, Korea, Viet Nam and Germany. While in Korea on New Years Eve of 1960 when George was 27, he met and later was united in marriage to Suk Nyun Lee of South Korea on September 16, 1963 in Seoul, Korea. George brought home to America his war bride and they shared 49 years of companionship. When George was discharged he and Suk Nyun made their home on the family farm raising hogs and crops. In 1978, they moved and made their home in Laverne. George drove a cement truck, custom bailed hay, laid water line, worked at a tire shop and drove a gas delivery truck all around the communities. Need help, George was there. George and Suk Nyun"s next move was to Woodward, Oklahoma. George was well known around the Woodward area as the handy man when he posted his name on the board of Star Lumber Company and also by word of mouth. He was kept very busy. George attended classes given by DHS to be a caregiver and in that capacity was able to assist several clients, especially widows. He was a matter of fact business man.

In 2010, Doris Raye Hickman came into his life at the Woodward Senior Citizens Center and they were married on September 16, 2011 at the Elm Grove Community Church in Chester. The Reverend Orville White officiated. George and Doris made their home in Woodward. Both being retired they enjoyed their time at the Woodward Senior Citizens Center, eating lunch, playing Dominoes and Canasta. For a past time, George worked the Search A Word books timing himself on each puzzle and watching his favorite programs on television.

George is survived by his wife Doris of the home; four brothers, Harold Moore and wife Janeth; Richard Moore and wife Fran; Dillard Moore and wife Diane; Luther Moore and wife Leah; one inherited daughter, Darla Shane and husband John of Kirbyville, Texas; one inherited son, Kenneth Davis and friend Teresa Dillon of Chester; one inherited granddaughter, Sheila Gordon and husband Mark of Olathe, Kansas; one inherited grandson, Daniel Davis and wife Annie of League City, Texas; several nieces, nephews and a host of friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Suk Nyun; two brothers, Alfred Moore and Dean Moore; sisters-in-law, Dee Ann and Teressa; one nephew Harold Ray Moore, Jr.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to the Woodward Senior Citizens Center or to a charity of your choice with Billings Funeral Home as custodian.
