John Lewis Ferguson

John Ferguson, 78 year old Woodward resident, died Friday February 26, 2021. A memorial service will be held Friday, March 19, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. in the Elmwood Cemetery with Reverend Scott Ware officiating. Arrangements were made under the direction of the Billings Funeral Home.

John Lewis Ferguson was born on May 25, 1942 in Waynoka, Oklahoma to Oscar and Jesse (Restine) Redd. He later was adopted by his maternal aunt and uncle Naoma (Restine) and Phillip Cologen Ferguson at the age of four. John grew up in the Woodward area and graduated from Woodward High School. After high school John was inducted into the United States Marine Corps. He served two tours in Vietnam from 1962-1966. John was a Sergeant and obtained the Good Conduct Metal, Rifle Expert, Vietnam Service Metal, National Defense Service Metal, and the RVN Campaign Metal. After his honorable discharge from the Military, John attended Oklahoma State University. He was united in marriage to Carol Maehacek, John adopted her daughter Laura and the couple later was also blessed with two children, Jason and Sarah.

John worked at Good Construction, Stride Well Service and as a rancher. John loved ranching, especially his cows and calves. He also enjoyed keeping a big garden in the earlier days, playing slotomania, and playing with his dogs, Heidi and Holli. He was a member of the Moose Lodge and of St. Johns Episcopal Church. Johns greatest enjoyment in life was his family and friends, especially his grandchildren. On November 26, 2004 John was united in marriage to Wanda (Hudspeth) Triplett in Woodward, Oklahoma. The couple made there home in Woodward.

John is survived by his son, Jason Ferguson and wife Amy of Woodward, Oklahoma; daughter Laura Shaw of Woodward; step sons, Mark Triplett and wife Marsha of Luther, David Triplett of Alexandria Virginia; brother, Phillip Ferguson II of Woodward; sister, Masie Bross and husband Larry of Edmond; grandchildren, Logan Ferguson, Noah Evans, Gabriella Evans, Sophia Avila, Jose Avila, Jasney Ferguson, Amanda Shaw, Rachelle Shaw; step grandchildren, Randi Kay Prieto; great grandchildren, Maxton Branson, Tayleigh Branson, Ashlei Branson, Anylzie McCathern; step great grandchildren, Alexia Tapia, Jace Prieto, Cade Prieto; sister in law, Lanell Murray and husband Harold; brother in law Tom Hudspeth and wife Brenda; his dogs, Heidi and Holli; and many special nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his spouse, Wanda Ferguson; his parents and grandparents, his daughter, Sarah Avila; and sister, Susie Gibson Moore.
