Arla Jo Hicks Curry

Jo Curry, 88 year old Mooreland resident, passed away on Tuesday, September 1, 2020 in Enid. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am Tuesday, September 8, 2020 in the First United Methodist Church of Mooreland with Reverend Micah Welcher officiating. Interment will follow in Elmwood Cemetery with the Billings Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Arla Jo (Hicks) Curry, was born on November 10, 1931 in Hobart, Oklahoma; she was the daughter of Walden Bennett and Agnes Irene (Hatfield) Hicks. Jo attended the Riverview School, a small country school near Camargo when she was young. Her family then moved to Quinlan, where she attended school and graduated from Quinlan High School. She was united in marriage to Robert L. Curry in 1948 and they were blessed with four children, Bobby Joe, Seven Lynn, Susan Lynette, and Jeff Duane. They made their home in Coldwater, Kansas for a short time, before returning to Quinlan. She and her children then moved to Mooreland, and she began her career with Farm Bureau in 1964 when the office was located in the old States Hotel. Jo was very proud of the fact that she, worked full time raised her four children, during a time when very few women worked outside of the home.

Jo enjoyed gardening, loved visits from her children and grandchildren. She was also very fond of collecting bird houses, but her number one favorite pastime was OU sports of all kinds.

In 1993, Jo was named Oklahoma Farm Bureau Secretary of the Year.

She was a longtime member of the First United Methodist Church of Mooreland. Jo always tried to help with church dinners, and other activities at the church.

Jo is survived by her four children, Bobby Curry of Hollister; Steven Curry and wife Nancy of Alva, Florida; Susan Young and husband Mick of Sharon; Jeff Curry and Marcia Dooley of Woodward; grandchildren, Stacy Westerbeck and husband Keith; Amy Hunt; Stephanie Summers and husband Marty; Mark Curry; Scott Curry and wife Kari; Joe Bob Stump and wife Melinda; Steven Curry, Jr. and wife JinAh; Alyssa Hillman and husband Jason; numerous great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Shirley Hicks of Oklahoma City; several nieces, nephews other family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, sister, Alma Joyce (Hicks) Moore, brothers: Bennette LeRoy Hicks, Morris Edward Hicks, Garland Louis Hicks, and Garman Leon Hicks.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Mooreland United Methodist Womens Goup with the funeral home accepting the contributions.
