Verda Olive Coyer

December 23, 1928 ~ November 3, 2019

Verda Coyer, 90 year old former Woodward area resident, died November 3, 2019 in Virginia. Graveside funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, November 9, 2019 in the Elmwood Cemetery.with Reverend Jeff Bradley officiating. Burial will follow with the Billings Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Verda Olive (Gartrell) Coyer was born on December 23, 1928 on the family farm near Woodward, Oklahoma to Oliver Dean and Bessie (Hamrick) Gartrell. She grew up on the farm in Woodward County and attended Fort Supply schools, graduating from Fort Supply High School in 1947.She was united in marriage to Roy Coyer on May 15, 1948. They were blessed with one son, Steven L. Coyer who was born on January 9, 1954. They made their first home in Woodward before moving to Pueblo, Colorado and later to Liberal, Kansas. Verda worked as a Bookkeeper for the John Deere Dealership for 25 years. They moved to Beaver, Oklahoma in 1964 and she continued living there until 2014 when she moved to Virginia to be closer to her son.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church. Verda loved spending time with her family.

She is survived by her son Steven Coyer of Roanoke, Virginia; one grandson Chase Coyer and wife Katie of Florida; three great-grandchildren, Jackson, Lily and Marygold; other relatives and friends.

Verda was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Roy Coyer, six brothers and one sister.
