Eugene "Gene" Chill

August 29, 1934 ~ November 12, 2020

Graveside service for Eugene Chill, 86, of Fairview will be 1:00 PM, Monday November 16 ,2020 at Elmwood Cemetery, at 2755 Downs Ave, in Woodward Oklahoma. Reverend Jeff Knighton will officiate. Arrangements by the Fairview Funeral Home Inc.

Eugene “Gene” Chill answered the call of Jesus November 12th, 2020 at his home in Fairview surrounded by his wife of 62 years and his children.

Gene was born August 29th, 1934 in Camargo OK, to Alfred and Melissa Jane “Polly" Chill, the 4th of 6 boys.

In his early years they moved to Woodward where he attended school through the 11th grade before leaving to join the Navy. He spent 4 years in the Service and 4 years in the Reserves before being Honorable Discharged in March 1958. Then he married the love of his life, Virginia Powers of Gage Ok, in Barstow CA on March 30th 1958.

After leaving the Navy, he worked several jobs including construction with his father and brothers before starting his career in appliance repair for Sears. He advanced to Salesman for Sears and won 3 “Outstanding Salesman of the Year” awards in the Kansas City region. In 1975 he moved the family to Fairview opening his own Sears Merchants store, which he ran for 10 years before selling for health reason. At which time he went back to repairing and was the “Go To” service man for this area for many years.

Gene belonged to the Lions Club, American Legion, and even the Elks Lodge. But most importantly he was a member of the Jaycee Organization in Woodward where he was the “Outstanding Jaycee” of the Year 3 years in a row.

Gene was a member of the Central Christian Church in Fairview, OK where he served as Property Chairman, Chairman of the Board, Deacon and Elder.

He leaves to mourn his passing his wife Virginia, son Randy Eugene and wife Louella “Lou” of Enid OK, daughter Cynthia Lynn and husband Mike Newbury of Council Grove KS, and daughter Crista Chill of Fairview OK, Grandson Michael Root and wife Melissa of Enid OK, Grandson Rocky Root of Homestead OK, Grandson Chandler and wife Heather Chill of Fairview, Granddaughter Chelsey Chill of Enid OK., Grandson Colton and wife Jessica Reed of Yukon OK. He is loved by his 13 Great Grandchildren and two Great Great Grandchildren.

Proceeding him in death were his parents, and 5 brothers.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Central Christian Church of Fairview OK.
