Barbara Carr, 93, longtime Woodward, OK. resident, died after a short bout with Covid on December 15, 2020 in Vinita, OK. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother; a dedicated educator and volunteer. She will be greatly missed.

A private chapel service is planned for Monday, December 21 at 2:00 pm with the Rev. Shannon Davis officiating. A public gravesite service will follow at the Elmwood Cemetery at approximately 3 pm. Arrangements are under the direction of Billings Funeral Home.

Barbara Lee Cofield Carr was born in Pauls Valley, OK on August 5, 1927 to Judge Jesse Douglas (JD) Cofield, and May Belle (Rew) Cofield. The fourth of five children, a child of the Great Depression, Barbara learned to share, study hard and work hard without complaint. A good student, Barbara graduated from Pauls Valley High in 1945 and then chose to attend and graduated from Oklahoma University in 1950. Her choice of OU would later be described as curious by her husband and children. Upon graduation, she taught elementary school in Lawton, then moved to Germany for two years where she taught children of US military personnel. She then returned to Lawton where she met John Louie Carr. They fell in love and were married June 7, 1955. They were married 52 years until his death in 2007. They lived in Lawton, Elyria, Oh., Vernon, Tx. and in 1963 moved to Woodward. Along the way, they welcomed a daughter Tammy and a son Greg. Barbara was a thoughtful, patient, loving wife and mother. She enjoyed cooking and was an excellent seamstress for her daughter and granddaughters. In 1966, with both kids in school, she began teaching third graders again. She also helped John with his Toms Peanuts business until his retirement. After more than 20 years, she retired from public teaching and began volunteering. She volunteered with the Oklahoma Literacy Council teaching adults for 20 years. She was an active member of PEO and was a pink lady at the local hospital. As a member of the First United Methodist Church in Woodward, she was very involved in church ministries.

Barbara lived her faith; always seeing the best in people and teaching by example.

She was preceded in death by her husband John, sisters Jean Tryon, Betty Nemecek, and brother Douglas Cofield. She is survived by daughter Tammy (Bruce) Stout, son Greg (Ann) Carr, grandchildren Kara (Brian) Chitty, Maleah (Jeff) Albright, Matthew Carr and Natalie Carr; sister Pat Corey, and special niece Vickie Barney and nephew Duff Weddle. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church with the funeral home in accepting the contributions.
