JOE B. CALVILLO, JR.

February 18, 1949 - February 22, 2018

Joe B. Calvillo, Jr., 69 year old Woodward resident, died Thursday, February 22, 2018 at his home in Woodward. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, February 26, 2018 in the Billings Funeral Home Chapel with the Reverend Phillip Ludwyck officiating. Burial will follow in the Elmwood Cemetery.

Joe Bocanegra Calvillo, Jr. was born on February 18, 1949 in Dexter, New Mexico to Jose Acosta and Adelina (Bocanegra) Calvillo. Joe grew up in Dexter and Hobbs, New Mexico and attended school in Dexter, New Mexico. He was united in marriage to Virginia Saiz Hinojos on October 8, 1968 in Lovington, New Mexico. They made their first home in Hobbs and continued living there until moving to Woodward. Joe worked in a cotton gin and he was a crane operator and farmer before going to work in the oilfield as a mechanic.

He was a member of the St. Helen’s Catholic Church in Hobbs, New Mexico and the St. Peter Catholic Church. He enjoyed fishing, boating, camping, traveling to car shows and car racing. Joe loved his family and he enjoyed restoring old cars and trucks with his children. One of his favorite things to do was to take his grandchildren fishing.

Joe is survived by his wife Virginia Calvillo of the home; sons: Gabriel Calvillo, Joe Calvillo, Jr. and wife Teresa, Sequiel Calvillo and wife Lisa, Jose Heriberto Calvillo and wife Nohemi; one daughter Angie Fidge and husband Luke; 11 brothers; two sisters; 17 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father Jose Calvillo, his mother Adelina Calvillo, brother, Andrew Calvillo, sister Violia Calvillo, grandson, Little Joe Calvillo, and granddaughter Lily Calvillo.
