Maureen Byrd, 62 year old former Woodward resident passed Sunday, January 15, 2023 in Chickasha. Graveside services will be 1:00 pm Thursday, January 19, 2023 in Elmwood Cemetery. Interment will follow with the Billings Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Maureen Anne (McAleney) Byrd was born on May 10, 1960 in Long Island, New York to George Henry McAleney and Linda Anne (Lloyd) Lawson. At a young age her family relocated to Woodward, Oklahoma where she attended school and graduated from Woodward High School. She was united in marriage to Kevin Byrd and they made their first home together in Maine, where their first child Elizabeth was born. Maureen was a loyal wife to a military service member and traveled with him wherever his career took them. They lived in numerous locations including, Florida, and Portugal where their son Ian was born, followed by Sicily, and then finally Oklahoma so she could be reunited with her family. She made every one of their new houses a home full of love and comfort.

Maureen was mainly a stay at home mother, but she also volunteered with Red Cross overseas volunteering as a dental assistant among other duties needed. She was happy to volunteer at her children's school tutoring children in reading and comprehension, as well as, teaching classes on art, and art appreciation to gifted students until her MS progressed to a debilitating extent.

Her family brought her the most joy, including her extended furbabies (grand puppies as she called them). Spending time with family was always the most important thing to her. Maureen also enjoyed drawing, painting, listening to music, cooking, reading and crafting.

Maureen is survived by her parents, Linda and William "Bill" Lawson; daughter, Elizabeth Anne Robinson and husband Josh; son, Ian Michael Dow Byrd; grand puppies, Teddy; Duncan; Harvey; Oona; Chewie; and newest senior dog addition Baylor who never got to know her, but would have loved her also; sisters, Ruth Thompson and husband Richard; Elaine Miller; brother, Jack McAleney and wife Evelyn; several nieces, nephews, other family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her father, George McAleney; and grandmother, Anne Lloyd.

Maureen will be missed but not forgotten. Her children will carry on traditions she set forth when they were little, and they will continue to honor her with them even in her death. Her family will cherish the memories she gave them, and will continue to think of and love her the rest of their lives.
