Woodward, Okla. — Cherry Burns, 56 year old Woodward resident, died Saturday, February 25, 2012 at the Woodward Regional Hospital. Funeral services will be held Thursday, March 1, 2012 at 2:00 P.M. in the Lincoln Avenue Baptist Church. The Reverend Jason Dirks will officiate. Interment will be in the Elmwood Cemetery under the direction of the Billings Funeral Home of Woodward.

Cherry Lee Taylor was born on December 27, 1955 at Portales, New Mexico to Claude Jerry and Billie Jo (Wood) Taylor. She was raised in Alva, Oklahoma, where Cherry attended Alva Public Schools. After graduating from high school she completed one year at Northwestern Oklahoma State University at Alva.

Cherry was married to Dana Miller and to this union one daughter, Jennifer Renee, was born.

Cherry and her daughter then moved to Woodward, to be closer to her mother. After moving to Woodward, her second child, Bryan was born. Cherry's passion was watching her children and grandchildren grow up and working in her garden. She also enjoyed making ceramics and caring for her dogs and cats. Cherry had a helping hand to whomever needed something and was a "mom" to her children and their friends. There wasn't a stranger she wouldn't help. Cherry was a strong willed lady and never gave up in any circumstances and always tried to find a solution to fix it all.

Cherry finally met the love of her life, Robert Burns and they were married in 2000. They raised their children together as one big happy family.

Cherry worked in Home Health Care and at the Dollar Tree Variety store. In her leisure time she enjoyed knitting and would make afghans for her family to enjoy.

Cherry was diagnosed with esophageal cancer and fought it all the way. She would never let anyone know how bad she was because she didn't want them to worry. Cherry kept on working because she wanted her last Christmas to be special for her family. She gave herself her final present, which was to go be with Jesus, with her family at her side.

Cherry is survived by her husband Robert of the home; her children, Jennifer Miller, Clara and T.J. McAdoo, Heather Burns, Angela Hixson and Travis, Bryan and Lisa Reaves, Sylvester and Mikki Burns and Butch Burns; grandchildren, Cody and Javien Evans, Brooklyn Miller, Mariska Garner, Bridget Reaves and baby, Jaden, Jasmin and Camron Heins, Aidan Burns, Libby Hixson and baby; her mother, Billie Witt and husband Jimmy; one sister Debbie Goree and husband James; numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Cherry as preceded in death by her father Jerry Taylor, one brother Kenneth Taylor and niece Paula Anderson.
