Verna Barnett, 80 year old Woodward resident, died Thursday, June 4, 2009 at the Grace Living Center in Woodward. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, June 8, 2009 in the Billings Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Larry White officiating. Interment will be in the Elmwood Cemetery.

Verna Marie (Sheley) Barnett was born on June 1, 1929 in Woodward, Oklahoma to Clarence LeRoy "Roy" and Mabel Marie (Aldrich) Sheley. Verna was reared in Woodward and attended the Woodward schools, graduating in 1947. Verna graduated from LPN School and after receiving her LPN license she worked at the Woodward Memorial Hospital as a nurse. Verna later worked for the Fetzer/Meece Clinic as the Office Nurse.

Verna was united in marriage to Wilbur F. Barnett on September 12, 1948 in Woodward, Oklahoma. They made their home in Woodward and were blessed with three children, David F., Wesley Dale and DeAnne Marie.

She was a member of the First Christian Church. Verna loved being with her family, working in her yard and helping Wilbur on the farm.

She is survived by her two sons, David F. Barnett and wife Rita of Woodward, Wesley Dale Barnett and wife Connie of Woodward; one daughter, DeAnne Marie Sacket and husband Terry of Lahoma; six grandchildren, Joe David Barnett, Jari Dawn Barnett, Kristin Lynn Barnett, Kiley Marie Barnett, Kaleb Dale Barnett, and Shannon Marie Sacket; three great-grandchildren, Baylor David Barnett, Brynlea Jo Marie Barnett, Bronson Luke Barnett; three sisters, Jeanette McFadden of Woodward, Joan Edwards of Woodward, Margaret Routh and husband Willis of Ponca City; other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Roy and Mabel Sheley, her husband, Wilbur F. Barnett and one brother Herb Sheley.
