James Michael Browning, or "Mike" to his family and friends, was born on April 22, 1943, to Velma Iris (Cantrell) and Harvey Browning at the Alva General Hospital. He passed away October 5, 2022, at Share Medical Center at the age of 79 years, 5 months and 13 days.

Mike graduated from Alva High School in 1961 and from NWOSU in 1969 with a Bachelor of Science. He served in the Army and deployed to Korea. After he returned to Alva he went to work at the drive-in theater where he found a passion for lights, cameras and movies. He then started a career as a postman, where he carried mail for 35 years until he retired.

He enjoyed trips to Branson and any amusement park he could find! He loved traveling with his dogs and he especially enjoyed his trip to Memphis as he loved Elvis. His niece and sister got to hear about that all the way home.

He was dedicated to his family, loved his sister and his nieces, but his greatest job and title was Great Uncle Mike. He loved those three more than anything. He truly was a child at heart and loved spending time with them.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Velma and Harvey and his sister, Julie Ann Buckley.

He is survived by his nieces Heather Canaan and Rebecca Buckley, who he lived with and was his primary care taker. He is also survived by a great nephew, Logan Canaan, and two great nieces, Madison Buckley and Paislee Canaan, his brother-in- law, Leroy Buckley, Jo and Warren Bosley and Steve Clampitt and cousins.

A love fund for James has been set up at Wharton Funeral Chapel.
