Jennie Small
January 17, 1954 - December 1, 2025
Jennifer Leigh "Jennie" Small, 71, of Woodward, Oklahoma passed away Monday, December 1, 2025, in Yukon, Oklahoma. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 6, 2025, in the Billings Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at the Union Center Cemetery, north of Dacoma, Oklahoma at 1:30 p.m. The service will be live-streamed on the Billings Funeral Home website.
Jennifer Small was born January 17, 1954, in Alva, Oklahoma, to J.W. and Ruth Ann (Vore) Small. Jennie, as her friends and family called her, was raised in Dacoma attending Dacoma School from first through eighth grades. Later, Dacoma and Carmen consolidated, and she was in the first high school freshmen class of 1969 in Carmen, graduating from Carmen-Dacoma High School in 1972. During high school she was an outstanding basketball player, earning All-State honors and a scholarship to Phillips University. She later transferred to Southwestern Oklahoma State University in Weatherford, where she graduated in 1976.
She began her career fresh out of college with Court Related Community Services which later became the Oklahoma Department of Juvenile Affairs (OJA). She was later promoted to District Supervisor for Oklahoma Department of Juvenile Affairs in Woodward making her home there. Jennie retired on April 20, 2021.
Jennie, along with close friend Becky, began taking the month of September to pull the camper to the mountains, kids in tow (the "precious dogs"). Many new adventures and stories came from those trips, and fun was always the end result.
Together Jennie and Becky started The Three Hearts Ranch Pet Sitting. Their love of animals and people helped the business flourish. Many friendships were formed through the business and Jennie cherished them all.
She spent many hours in her garage working on her hobby of making cutout wood Christmas figures, decor, and signs. Jennie loved watching and attending graduations, weddings, baby showers, breast cancer runs with her sisters, and any event that involved her family. When the nieces and nephews had children, the tradition continued with the next generation. Traveling for family activities and events from Pennsylvania to Texas were a very important part of her life. Attending OKC Thunder and OU athletic events with her sisters meant a great deal to Jennie. Being an OU sports fan, attending games with her sisters, and cheering them on brought her tremendous joy.
Her passing has left a void in our hearts, but we are comforted by the love she shared in our lives. Now she is at peace, greeted by family and friends waiting for her. She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Jeanette Atha and Lisa Boler; her brother, Preston Small; dear friend Becky Hostetler; and cousin Teresa Shumski.
She is survived by her niece, Jenisa Atha, and Jenisa's daughter, Willow, of McAlester, Oklahoma; nephews Jared Atha and wife Alison, and their children Katherine and James of Canute, Oklahoma; Justin Small and wife Miranda, and their children Rylan, Jaylee, and Sawyer of Kingwood, Texas; and Travis Small and wife Melissa, and their children John and Vivian of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma.
The family would like to thank James Myatt, Ryan, Michelle, and Cooper Busby; and Cheryl for their kindness, care, and support.
Memorial contributions may be made to the WOOF Pet Rescue with the Billings Funeral Home, 1621 Downs Avenue, Woodward, OK, 73801 accepting the contributions.
