Enid, OK — The funeral for Evelyn Opal Nusser, 86, of Alva, will be 2 p.m. Mon-day, Dec. 14, 2009, at Wharton Funeral Chapel, Alva. The Rev. Connie Kinnard will officiate. Burial will be in Pleasant View Cemetery. Arrangements are by Wharton Funeral Chapel.

She was born Dec. 6, 1923, at her grandparents’ home near Dacoma to Charles Alvin and Ada Pearl Morse Nusser and died Friday, Dec. 11, 2009, at Alva Share Convalescent Home.

She attended school in Dacoma and in Friendship District 53 near Hopeton. She was a 1941 graduate of Northwestern Horace Mann High School.

She spent two years at Northwestern State College before beginning her teaching career. She earned her bachelor’s degree through summer school and night classes.

She taught at Friendship District 8 in Alfalfa County and at Mound Ridge District 114 in western Woods County. After the Mound Ridge school closed, she moved to the Freedom school system, where she taught for three years before teaching elementary school for 17 years in Dacoma.

She returned to Northwestern in 1966 and earned her master’s degree. She then taught for 12 more years in Fowler, Kan., before retiring in 1979.

Surviving are her sister, Mary Johnson of Dacoma and three brothers, Dean, Alan and Charles, all of Alva.

She was preceded in death by one sister and three brothers.

Memorials may be made through the funeral home to Northwestern Oklahoma State Foundation.
