The funeral for Helen Louise Long, 93, of Alva, will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 27, 2009, at Wharton Funeral Chapel, Alva. The Rev. Mark Kinkle will officiate. Burial will be in Pleasant View Cemetery, Alva.

She was born April 16, 1916, in Latham, Kan., to Maggie Elizabeth Harris and Elmer Thomas Smith and died Saturday, May 23, 2009, at Beadles Nursing Home, Alva.

She attended Upper Timber Creek rural grade school and graduated from Latham High School. She later attended Kansas School of Business in Wichita.

She married Kenneth Deinlein Feb. 23, 1941, in Blackwell. They made their home in Hopeton, where she worked 13 years as a depot agent for Frisco Railroad at Hopeton and later at Dacoma. He died Feb. 14, 1956.

She married William Russell Long May 11, 1962, in Medford. They made their home in Alva. He died Nov. 26, 1976.

She worked for Alva Co-op, retiring after 27 years.

Surviving are one son, Larry Deinlein of Kingsland, Texas; one daughter, Carolyn Sample of Alva; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and one stepgreat-granddaughter.

In addition to both husbands, Kenneth and William, she was preceded in death by three sisters and seven brothers.

Memorials may be made to Dacoma Fire Department.
