ENID — Funeral for Donna Lee Simmons will be 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 22, 2010, at Marshall Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will be in Memorial Hill Cemetery under the direction of Marshall Funeral Home, Alva.


Donna Lee Simmons, daughter of Leroy Dave and Grace America (Thompson) Settle, was born Aug. 16, 1946, in Alva and passed away Friday, Dec. 17, 2010, in Enid at the age of 64 years, 4 months and 1 day.

Donna was in the last class to graduate from Byron-Driftwood High School, graduating in 1964. She received her early childhood degree in education from Northwestern Oklahoma State University.

On Dec. 23, 1967, she was united in marriage to Robert Jake Simmons at Byron Christian Church.

She taught school in Warner Robbins School in Georgia, Tonkawa and Cherokee, before retiring in 2006 after teaching at Caney Valley School in Ramona, Okla., for several years. She did not want to retire because she loved working with the children so much.

She was a member of Byron Christian Church and Oklahoma Education Association. All of her life, she loved caring for animals. She was known by all who knew her as a kind, loving, caring person.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Simmons.

Donna is survived by one son, Stephen Scott Simmons of Enid; two sisters, Sue and Karen Settle of Enid; other relatives and many friends.

The funeral for Robert Jake “Bob” Simmons, 60, of Ramona, will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Marshall Funeral Home Chapel, Alva. The Rev. John Brint will officiate. Burial will be in Memorial Hill Cemetery. Arrangements are by Marshall Funeral Home, Waynoka. Visitation will be 6 p.m. today at the funeral home in Waynoka, and 8 a.m. to service time Saturday at the funeral home in Alva

He was born May 13, 1945, in Alva to Claude William and Mary Ethel Vernon Cropp Simmons and died Wednesday, March 22, 2006, at his home.

He graduated from Waynoka High School in 1963 and received a bachelor’s degree in music from Northwestern Oklahoma State University in 1967, and accounting in 1975. He later earned his master’s of business administration degree from Tulsa University in 1990, becoming a certified public accountant in 1992. He worked summers for Santa Fe Railroad and served four years in the Air Force where he played in the Air Force Band.

He married Donna Lee Settle Dec. 23, 1967, in Byron. They lived in Ramona where he worked as a certified public accountant in the natural gas industry, starting with Phillips Petroleum. He worked for BP Amoco at the time of his death.

Surviving are his wife, Donna, of Ramona; one son, Stephen Scott Simmons of Ramona; three brothers, Claude William “Jr.” Simmons Jr. of Yukon, Don Simmons of Kaw City and Paul Simmons of San Angelo, Texas; two sisters, Verna Lee Chambers of Odessa, Texas, and Louise Whitney of Waynoka; and two grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two brothers and three sisters.
