Mrs. Greer is Called by Death

January 17, 1931

Funeral Services at 2:30 Sunday

Mrs. Carrie Greer passed away early today at her home at 825 First St. following a long illness.

Funeral services will be held at 2:30 PM Sunday at the First Methodist Episcopal church. Interment will be in the Bethel Cemetery southwest of Avard.

Mrs. Greer was the mother of eight sons and one daughter. Sons surviving are Tom, Fred and Kent, all of Alva; E. D., of Enid; John, of Enid; James of McAlester; Vern of Fort Scott, Kansas, and William of Capron.

The daughter is Mrs. Grace Wagoner of Alva.

Fowitz Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

Carrie M. Buckley Greer, daughter of Rev. and Mrs. W. W. Buckley, was born March 16, 1862 in Pike County, Kentucky where she grew to womanhood. She departed this life January 17, 1931.

She received her education in Kentucky where she became a teacher in the public schools. She was United in marriage to Isaac Monroe Greer at Catlesburg, Kentucky December 2, 1882. To this union 12 children were born. Emil Greer of Enid, Grace Wagoner of Alva, James of McAlester, Kenner of Alva, Thomas of Alva, William of Capron, John of Enid, Vern of Fort Scott, Kansas, Fred of Alva; Joseph Lee and Sidney, who preceded her in death.

They came to Oklahoma in the year of 1898 and lived on a farm near Avard, where her husband departed this life October 16, 1909. After the death of her husband Mrs. Greer moved to Alva in the year of 1920, where she resided until the time of her death.

She United with the church June 21, 1885 at Pikesville, Kentucky, then after moving to Oklahoma she and her husband put their membership in the Methodist Church at Pleasant Hill in the year of 1905. It was at her request that her membership was transferred and recorded on the church record of the First Methodist Episcopal Church in Alva.

After moving from the farm near Avard, she moved her membership in the Rebekah Lodge at Avard to the Alva Lodge.

She leaves to mourn her departure her sons and daughter, two sisters, Mrs. W. H. Powell of Coloney, who was present at the time of her death, and Mrs. Hiram Casebolt of Pikesville, Kentucky. She also leaves one brother S. P. Buckley of Long Beach, California. She leaves 18 grandchildren and a host of friends.
