November 10, 1952 - September 13, 2019

Thomas Jay Mitchell, 66 years old, passed away on Friday, September 13, 2019, at the St. Francis Hospital in Tulsa. He was born to Thomas William and Mary Beth (Bachtold) Mitchell on November 10, 1952, in Great Bend, Kansas. Thomas attended school in Duncan, Woodward and graduated from Laverne High School. After high school he went to Okmulgee Tech to become a mechanic. Thomas worked in the oilfields around Freedom for Lear Oil Company as a pumper. He was married to Glena (Gay) Mitchell.

Those preceding him in death include his father Thomas W. Mitchell; a brother, Harold Mitchell; and sisters Patricia Sue Smith and Joan M. Kennedy.

The surviving family includes his wife Glenda of Alva; his mother Mary Beth Mitchell of Freedom; his children, Thomas J. Mitchell Jr. of Vinita, Sonya K. Mitchell of Alva, and Mary Sue Mitchell of Oklahoma City; step-daughters Karma Haltom of Catoosa and Angie Braswell of Freedom; sister Kathie Porschien and husband Michael of Murphy, Texas; brothers Roger Lynn Mitchell and wife Sue of Freedom and Nathaniel H. Mitchell and wife Penny of Tehachapi, California; uncles, Harold Bachtold of Gillette, Wyoming and Eddy Lee Bachtold of Owasso; grandchildren, Ashley and Skye; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

The graveside service will be held on Wednesday, September 18, 2019, at 2 p.m. at the Freedom Cemetery, with Rev. Mark Kinkel officiating. Online condolences may be made at http://www.stephens-key.com, or on the funeral home Facebook page. Arrangements are under the care of Stephens-Key Funeral and Cremation Care of Pryor.
